Introduction to Mons Lift

When the mons pubis appears fuller or sags, it can affect how our clothing fits, how the lower abdomen appears, and even how we feel in those private moments.

At Plastic Surgery Associates of Long Island, patients can restore a smooth, balanced silhouette with a mons lift performed by triple-board-certified surgeon Sotirios Papafragkou, MD, FACS, and board-certified plastic surgeon Susie Rhee, MD. With expert care and thoughtful technique, our team helps patients feel more confident in swimwear, lingerie, and form-fitting clothing, and simply in looking in the mirror and appreciating their results.

Our team at Plastic Surgery Associates of Long Island (PSAOLI) proudly serves patients throughout Long Island, including Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, Garden City, and Manhasset, NY.

mons what is

What is a Mons Lift?

A mons lift is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the pubic region by reducing excess skin and sometimes fat in the lower pelvic area. The mons pubis sits just above the genital area and below the lower abdomen. When this area enlarges or droops forward, it can be difficult to conceal under clothing and may make the stomach appear less toned, even if a patient has achieved a healthy weight.

A mons lift helps refine and elevate this area, creating a more defined contour in the lower abdomen. Dr. P or Dr. Rhee will evaluate the underlying tissue and determine the best method to create a smoother transition between the abdomen and pubic region.

Who Are the Best Candidates for a Mons Lift?

Ideal candidates for a mons lift are individuals who are uncomfortable with the shape or fullness of their pubic region and want a long-lasting improvement. Patients often seek this procedure after achieving weight loss goals or after childbirth, when the mons may no longer match the rest of their physique.

Many people combine a mons lift with other body-contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck, which may be especially helpful after pregnancy, as both areas often require tightening and tissue repositioning.

A consultation with Dr. Papafragkou or Dr. Rhee allows patients to discuss their concerns openly and learn whether a mons lift aligns with their goals.

What Are the Benefits of a Mons Lift?

A mons lift can significantly improve the appearance and comfort of the lower body. It helps flatten and elevate the mons pubis so that the abdomen appears more sculpted and harmonious with the rest of the figure.

For individuals who have undergone childbirth or major weight loss, the procedure can also help normalize the area and restore a sense of femininity or masculinity that may have felt lost due to stretched tissue.

What’s the First Step?

The first step toward a mons lift is a private consultation at Plastic Surgery Associates of Long Island. During this visit, Dr. P or Dr. Rhee will review your medical history and carefully assess your anatomy. This includes determining how much improvement can be achieved with liposuction alone versus how much skin tightening is needed to achieve a smooth, elevated contour.

This is also where you can express what concerns you and the final look you hope to achieve. Your personal surgeon will explain the procedure in detail, including incision placement, expected healing, and what the results may look like in your unique body. Once you feel fully informed and ready, a customized surgical plan is prepared, and preoperative instructions are provided to ensure you are comfortable and confident ahead of surgery.

What to Expect on the Day of a Mons Lift Surgery

Once anesthesia is administered, Dr. P or Dr. Rhee strategically marks the area to guide precise contouring.

When needed, liposuction is first performed to remove stubborn fat and refine the shape. Excess skin may then be trimmed, and the tissue is gently lifted and secured into a more youthful position. The incisions are placed low so that they remain easily concealable beneath underwear and swimwear.

Once the desired contour is achieved, the area is closed.

Your Guide to Post-Mons Lift Care

Our patients can expect some swelling and tenderness during the first week as the body heals.

Wearing your compression garment is essential to help minimize swelling and maintain the newly created shape. Many return to desk work within several days, while more physically demanding activities should be avoided for about four to six weeks.

Bruising gradually fades, and the area continues to smooth and refine over the first couple of months.
