What Are BOTOX® & Wrinkle Relaxers?

BOTOX is an FDA-approved prescription injectable that smooths and reduces the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. It blocks nerve signals to the specific muscles that cause wrinkles and blurring, preventing them. BOTOX makes it harder to move the treated muscles, but you can still move your forehead, frown, and function normally. At Plastic Surgery Associates of Long Island, the board-certified surgeons perform BOTOX injections. This ensures that you get the treatment you need with natural-looking results.

What Areas Does BOTOX® Treat?

BOTOX treats areas of the upper face, including: Between the eyebrows, Forehead lines, and Crow’s feet (lines around the eyes).

Plastic Surgery Associates of Long Island also offers Dysport®, another neurotoxin with similar effects. Dysport is FDA-approved for use in the lines between the eyebrows.

Who Are the Best Candidates for BOTOX® & Wrinkle Relaxers?

BOTOX is generally recommended for those in their mid-thirties to mid-sixties. These patients tend to have more pronounced mild-to-moderate dynamic wrinkles, are concerned about signs of aging, want a preventive measure to combat wrinkles, or simply are not ready for (or don’t want) surgical intervention, such as a facelift.

While the 30s-60s age range is recommended for BOTOX, patients over 18 may be eligible for treatment. BOTOX is not recommended for those with active skin infections or an open wound near the injection site. Candidates should be in generally good health and free of any potential allergies to the BOTOX formulation. A consultation with Dr. P., Dr. Rhee, or another of our Long Beach providers will determine whether this treatment is right for you.

What Are the Benefits of BOTOX® & Wrinkle Relaxers?

The main benefit of BOTOX and other wrinkle relaxers is that they help patients achieve a youthful, smooth appearance by targeting the specific facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Doing so eliminates fine lines and other wrinkles around the face and can be injected into various areas, depending on the patient’s concerns. The results are temporary, meaning that if you change your mind, you can rest assured the effects will not last more than a few months. You can continue treatment to maintain your results. Additionally, BOTOX has helped many patients treat severe migraines and teeth grinding by relaxing the muscles responsible for causing this discomfort.

What’s the First Step?

Determining your candidacy for BOTOX begins with a consultation at our Long Beach, NY office. We proudly serve patients in Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, Garden City, and Manhasset, NY. Dr. Papafragkou, Dr. Rhee, or another provider will review your medical history to ensure this product is safe for you and examine your skin and areas of concern to develop a treatment plan. This plan will include the injection areas, the exact product used (BOTOX or another wrinkle relaxer), and the amount of product required to achieve your desired results. We will also go over what your treatment schedule will look like to maintain your results, pricing, and what to expect from treatment. From there, we can (in many cases) administer your first treatment the same day, or we can schedule it for a later date if needed.

First Step

What to Expect on the Day of a BOTOX® & Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment

Your treatment will take place at our Long Island, NY office with either Dr. P or Dr. Rhee, or another member of our aesthetics team. The process begins by numbing the injection sites to keep you comfortable during the procedure, as the injection may feel like a slight pinch (mild, temporary discomfort). Your plan will determine how many injections are needed to achieve your desired overall appearance, but the entire procedure takes about 20 minutes. You will be able to go home the same day and resume most of your normal activities, as this is a non-invasive treatment with results that develop gradually. We will, however, provide you with some care tips to help prolong your results until your next treatment.

BOTOX® & Wrinkle Relaxers Recovery

Your Guide to Post-BOTOX® & Wrinkle Relaxers Care

A major benefit of BOTOX, especially compared to surgical options for skin rejuvenation, is virtually no downtime. In the first 1-2 days, we recommend avoiding makeup and touching the treated areas of your face, but you can resume work and most other activities immediately after your appointment. Results are not immediate; they will begin to develop within the first day or so and continue to refine over the next couple of weeks, at which point you can see the full extent of your treatment. After about 4 months, additional treatments are recommended to maintain your results, as the relaxers typically start to wear off around then.
