Introduction to Thigh Lift

Thigh contour deformities, particularly those of the inner thighs, are a common concern for many individuals after weight loss, pregnancy, aging, or, in some cases, secondary to thigh liposuction.

Our team at Plastic Surgery Associates of Long Island (PSAOLI) proudly serves patients throughout Long Island, including Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, Garden City, and Manhasset, NY.

What is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that addresses excess skin and adipose tissue in the inner thigh, typically in patients after massive weight loss, but not only. It is a two-step procedure that begins with liposuction of the inner thighs, followed by excision of excess skin. It is done under general anesthesia.

Who Are the Best Candidates for a Thigh Lift?

Ideal candidates are individuals in the Long Island area who are in good overall health, have a stable weight, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Those who have experienced significant weight loss, whether through diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery, often find a thigh lift particularly helpful in addressing residual skin laxity.

What Are the Benefits of a Thigh Lift?

By removing excess skin, patients can experience improved comfort while walking, exercising, and engaging in other daily activities. Clothing fits more comfortably and looks smoother, enhancing self-confidence and overall satisfaction with one’s body.

A thigh lift can also provide clients with a long-lasting solution for sagging or drooping skin that cannot be corrected with diet or exercise alone.

What’s the First Step?

On your first visit to the office, your doctor will discuss your options with you and determine whether you are a good candidate for this procedure. A medical history will be taken, and a physical exam will be performed. Details of the procedure will be explained. The procedure will be scheduled at an outpatient facility under general anesthesia.

What to Expect on the Day of a Thigh Lift Surgery

Dr. P or Dr. Rhee begins with liposuction to contour the inner thighs and remove excess fat.

Once the fat is sculpted, the excess skin is removed, and the remaining tissue is tightened to create a smooth, natural contour. Absorbable sutures are used to close the incisions.

The thighs are initially wrapped with foam, gauze, and tape to support healing, and patients transition to a compression garment after three days to reduce swelling and support tissue recovery.

Once you are awake and stable, discharge instructions and postoperative care guidelines are reviewed to ensure a safe and smooth recovery at home.

Thigh Lift Recovery

Your Guide to Post-Thigh Lift Care

This procedure is done in a hospital under general anesthesia. Your lower extremities will be wrapped with special foam, gauze, and tape. Three days after surgery, you will be transitioned into a compression garment that you will have to wear for a few weeks. All sutures are absorbable and do not need to be removed. Surgical drains are not typically used for this procedure.

Depending on the extent of the surgery and your overall health, full recovery is expected in about 6 weeks. Typically, patients take a week off work. Patients are usually able to drive the day after the surgery, and they don’t use any prescription pain medication.
